You can do that. I am using a 12 bolt rear out of a 1969 Chevy pickup and the only problem I have is that I need to shorten the cables an inch or two. Most of the park brake connectors you'll find look like this:

It is just a matter of getting a little creative with hookups, etc. You probably will find you need to spread the old brake cable shroud holders apart to let the newer cable fit. (Old cable shrouds were smaller). But all will work fine and the crossbar linkage gives you a lot of room for adjustment.

If you need to shorten the cables, you can use silver bearing solder to do that. You could probably use common acid flux type. No matter what you use remember to neutralize the flux with baking soda or it will cause your cables to rust like crazy. Drill the right size hole in a bolt, cut off the size piece you need and solder it using the right flux. Harris Stay-Brite is the best. Not cheap but you will find many uses for it... you even can solder cast iron if needed.

Good luck!
