For ease of access, it is better to have the doors off the truck. Before doing so, mark the hinge locations on the door jamb and the door with a scribe, to ensure proper alignment when re-hanging the doors, if you take them off. I found it a lot easier, however the do not have to be removed.
I do suggest using a spot weld cutter, for drilling the factory spot welds. I have done it several times and this is the best method and results.
