If the truck is 80 years old, and you like it the way it is, then don't mess with it. Anything and everything you do to it will take away from the natural patina you have. Tons of guys are looking to fake that look and it ends up looking like crap, so why would you (or anyone) want to mess with it.
In short, it took 80 years to get to look like that, what exactly do you think you are "saving".
