I have a 51 Chev 3100 316 3 speed on the column. When I decelerate in 3rd gear the tranny growls I have another trans I got with the truck but unsure of what year it is. I have it completely disassembled. I want to get a repair kit but want to make sure I order the right one. In Motors Manual it say 53 and newer have 24 needle bearings. I found more than that in the trans so I know someone was in there before. Have 50 of the small long ones. The trans is marked 5 GM 591615 It has C11 verticle above that. The pad next to the side cover is marked JO 96542. 4 bolt side cover and have torque tube. Will the later kits fit or is there different bearings for the 3 speed with the tail shaft..Also what is going on with the existing trans. Shifts great and the synchros work. I either let off real slow or push the clutch in. The trans in the truck is marked 3 GM 59615. Thanks for any help you can supply.
