I have a 1955 Chevrolet 3100 first series with a 4 speed transmission. The transmission arm (lever) is sloppy. Is there a fix for this? I have a 4 speed transmission from a 1954 GMC, but it was from a closed drive shaft and mine is open. The shift arm on this transmission seems to be tighter than mine. Can I just switch the mechanism from one to the other without removing the transmission. Are there any simple alterations that could be made to the 1954 closed transmission that would work with my open drive shaft? Do all the 4 speed transmissions from previous years (before 1955) have synchromesh in first, second, and third? Not the granny. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
