| | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 Insomniac | | Insomniac Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 | Before you replace the dimmer switch, make sure it's wired properly. Accidentally swapping the high beam lead and the lead from the switch could cause the symptoms you describe. The center terminal on the dimmer switch should connect to the light switch.
I suspect the new light switch is not wired properly.
When you switch on the dome light by rotating the knob, it completes the circuit by connecting to ground. If the panel (gauge cluster) lights are connected to this terminal, they won't come on! They need to be connected to the terminal connected to the rheostat. My guess is that the wires for the dome light and the panel lights are swapped on the switch.
Do you a VOM? It helps for checking these things out.
