You can sandblast any part of your suspension as long as you carefully clean the parts afterward. A wire wheel on a grinder or wire brushes work well too. Just a little more work involved.

I would however recommend avoiding sandblasting or a wire wheel on the the spindles, or any other bearing surface. And, I wouldn't recommend sanblasting the brake shoes at all. The sand can get imbedded in the lining with unfortunate results. The best way to clean any of the brake parts is with brake cleaner and elbow grease.
