I am looking at painting my 53 one ton sometime this spring, so this is not an urgent concern, but I'd like to get any advice and suggestions about what paint to use.

I have already painted the underside of the cab and the firewall with Sherwin Williams Acrylyd Enamel (which is a catalyzed enamel) that was special mixed to match the original color of Burgundy Maroon, a color only available in 1953. It cost $400 per gallon!

I would like to paint with a single stage urethane, I don't really like the base/clear coat look. Our local parts store sells Nason, but I would be willing to order something online. I just don't know enough about automotive paint to know what is good and what is not worth spraying.

I'm not too concerned about exactly matching the paint I've already put on, I figure no one will see the two colors together. But do I need to do anything special?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am currently digging back in to a 1953 3800 (one ton) with a nine foot bed. I've owned it since 1979, and drove it until 1982 (or so). My wife got me involved in restoring it back in 2002, got the body removed and the frame redone, then things came up. Now I am retired and starting again.
