I was tearing down a 235 today and found a part that I have not seen before. Pictures are attached. It is a dish shaped part about 3" in diameter that was between the harmonic balancer and the crank gear behind the gear cover keyed to fit over the woodruff key to keep it stationary on the crank snout.
The engine came out of my '57 3600. I'm the second owner. The engine had never been out of the truck until I pulled it yesterday. It was interesting to tear down an unmolested engine to see exactly how it came from the factory. No surprises other than this one mystery part.
I've pulled several harmonic balancers and gear covers off 235 engines in the past and have never seen this part before. Maybe it's just me who has never seen one. Thought others might find this interesting.
