Clamp a pair of vise grips on the starter ring gear and let them butt against the edge of the bellhousing to keep the flywheel from turning. Loosen all the bolts a turn or two each, and then loosen them all a little at a time to prevent warping the pressure plate cover. Be careful- - - -the disc can drop suddenly or the pressure plate itself is heavy enough to mash fingers, etc., once all the bolts are removed. One sneaky trick is to insert a clutch plate alignment tool through the plate and into the pilot bushing while removing the bolts.
