I am starting to work on my 1941 Chevy Howard Cooper fire truck. I have a couple of questions that I would like to have some opinions on:
The truck originally served with the Orting, WA fire department. The "Orting" part of the name has mostly been removed. I want to rename it "Volunteer Fire Dept" in honor of all of us who served our communities to help our neighbors, not for pay. What are your thoughts on the rename?
I have a picture of the truck with a metal "basket" up on the hosebed behind the driver's seat for the booster hose. I am used to Howard Coopers with a booster hose reel. Should I try to build the basket or look for a reel?
There are several parts of the truck that have ugly hand painted labels, including the shift pattern on the dashboard. Should I preserve these as part of being from a poor volunteer department or spruce it up a bit for car shows?
