I had the side engine pans on my 39 for years. Lately I've found them a pain to work around. So I took them off. It's a lot easier to get to somethings on an engine from the bottom side, i.e. starter for one, not to mention keeping the engine cleaner. I live on a dirt road, and they sure didn't keep the dust down under the hood. They did a great job of collecting it tho.
