A 1/16 thick smashed down gasket makes a difference? Don't think so. As Tim is trying to do for you, search Rockauto for your year motor. They have the definitive part number(s). What did you ask for at the pump store? Did the new pumps match the old one?
I hope you have the wrong pump so we don't have to go thru all this again. (not your fault). If you have the right pump, please search on here to read all the many posts on this subject. Pumps, carbs, filters, dirty gas, floating particles, gas cap vent, vacuum leak.............bad coil, bad condenser., loose wires, ignition switch intermittency.
