Hi there, first time posting here on these forums. I have a 62 with a 261 inline six and have been having some troubles with it. It really doesn't like to start, regardless of it being warm or cold. I often have to squirt a little starting fluid down the carb just to get it running. Once it's running I need to keep the choke partially on, or else it will die. And when I try to give it some gas quickly it will just stumble and almost die, but if I slowly press on the gas pedal it will accelerate, but backfires out the carb and exhaust. And there is a constant popping coming from the exhaust regardless of the rpm. I have the timing set at TDC like my chiltons manual specifies, and I just completely disassembled the old Rochester and made sure ever passage was clean and insured the float level is correct, the accelerator pump leather seal is also in good condition and makes a nice seal. Plug wires are all in the correct orientation for the 153624 firing order. The exhaust also seems to be building up carbon on the tips pretty quickly as well as the spark plugs getting very black. This is kind of stumping me, and ideas of what to take a look at next? Thanks.
