Hello Texas bolters. I am looking for a recommendation for a shop that does good head work on old 235's here in the Houston area. I'm not sure if I need to have the head worked on yet, but when I checked the compression, it ranged from 55 to 75.... No Bueno. I'm hopeful it's just sticky valves and not the rings.
The truck sat dormant for 19 years, so it could be a lot of things. From reading several posts on this forum (which is fantastic btw) I have done the following: filed the points, set the points gap, confirmed plug wires are in the correct firing order, got a new battery, new coil, cleaned all electrical contact points, rebuilt the carburetor, cleaned out the fuel lines and am about to try new plugs and rebuild the gummed up fuel pump this weekend. On two different occasions, when I was trying to start it up, it skittered like it was going to fire, so I feel like i'm close.
My other hope is if I can get it to start, that a little running time and some heat will loosen things up. The compression numbers are so low, I'm fearing the worst. Number one came up at 55 psi consistently on three tests. Any help is appreciated!
