josé, well.....it could. Chevrolet trucks switched to 12 volt in 1955 (?) and 12v generators were common into the early 60's. So for approximately 5 or 6 years you had 12 volt generators. My guess is the difference the vendors honor has more to do with specific wiring harness connections (to a alternator or generator) than proper wire size based on system voltage.

Hopefully I'm mistaken.
