You have the right mindset. At 15 you can learn a lot about these old hunks of iron and in a few years you will have a nice truck to show for your efforts. Soak in as much information as possible from the vast wealth of knowledge on this board. Let the snide remarks from some of the grumpy old men just roll off your back and keep on working. I will second this. Sounds like you have a nice project. I'm assuming you will getting some help from grandpa. Can't replace that with anything.
On making your truck a dually. Longer Wheel studs are the only thing you need on the rear. If you want the dually wheels on the front you need wheel spacers from a dually.
