Attempted to mount the spare tire and wheel on a 1954 Chevrolet truck style spare tire carrier. Got it mounted but really messed up the paint on the wheel trying to get it mounted. Is there a trick to doing this without messing up the paint? Does the flat "L" shaped plate on the spare tire carrier mount to the inside of the wheel lip or on the wheel lip itself? Any suggestions with success GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
