Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2016 Posts: 52 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2016 Posts: 52 | I know this subject has been addressed many times but this has me puzzled! My steering box had some excessive play in the steering wheel and visible side to side movement at the outer bushing near the pitman arm. When I saw that the sector shaft adjusting screw had the jam nut discarded and the screw end fully in flush with the cover, I assumed the box was worn beyond repair. I did not bother to check for end play at the roller bearings on the steering shaft. Upon disassembly, I was surprised to see almost no visible wear on the sector shaft teeth or the matching gear. also the worm and recirculating balls have almost no end play. Is it possible for worn bushings and possibly loose steering shaft roller bearings to have such a profound impact on sector shaft screw adjustment? Maybe a rebuild kit will fix it up after all. Your experience??? | | |
