redwing: I've done a few of these conversions. Just finished one 2 days ago. I cut the column about 2"s away from the firewall, but cut the shaft a couple inches longer to fit a u-joint to it. I mill 2 flats on the end of the shaft to create a double D. Fit a bearing inside the end of the column. On this last conversion I used a 58-65 Ford pump that has the reservoir on top of the pump. I make my own pump mounting brackets that bolt to the front of the engine in 3 places which is a very clean looking design with easy adjustment. This setup is for using the original generator by adding a double pulley to it and running a separate belt to the pump. Very nice looking and working setup. I'd be willing to make the mounting brackets if needed. Dave V
