I have a Case skid steer with a Cummins 4 cylinder diesel and the air filter housing is similar to what you are describing. It is cylindrical but positioned horizontally instead of vertically. You should be able to mount it in any orientation. Air don't care. If it has to be shiny, you can always chrome it.
