no, the metal pieces that hold the channel run tight against the out side of the window frame. Maybe some had staples, I don't know, but mine had pieces of metal about 1/2" wide by about 1 1/2" long and were attatched to the old channel. They have four little tabs shaped like this....

....and the tabs are kind of "pierced" through the metal. I got some really small screws, I think I'll try that. Thanks.
