Use a thread repair method called a "Riv-Nut" It fits into a hole drilled oversize and is installed with a plier-type tool similar to a pop riveter. Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, and similar places sell then, plus they're available on Ebay. It's a quick, easy, and permanent fix.
