For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 250 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 250 | I've been posting on the 1Ton forum about my stuck wheels and tight brakes. I finally got the wheels off and figured I wanted to cross post onto the shop forum about removing my brake drums. Both front brakes are way too tight, the passenger side I can get to turn if I put a breaker bar on the lug nuts but I can't turn the driver's side at all! The adjusters don't move in either direction. The teeth are worn down and scarred up but remain solidly frozen. What kind of tricks can I use to safely get the drums off if I can't manage to back off the brake pads? The truck uses a hub extension on the fronts so that I can use the dually style wheels. I'm pretty sure I have to remove the extension first. I don't want to break anything--especially the drums--but I have new wheel cylinders ready to go and I can always reline the shoes if need be. One tip I have received (thanks Truckernix!) is to unbolt the wheel cylinders to give a little wiggle room inside the drums. Any helpful ideas are appreciated! Thanks, Jim | | |
