Shaggy and Scoob's 1952 Well, after a year or so of working on it here and there, we were able to drive it around the neighborhood...
One last drive... Thinking we were over our heads with taking it any further, we sold the truck we named Bessy. We made some money on her, but the tears in Ryan's eyes as she was put on the trailer and vanishing into the night wasn't worth any amount of money for this dad.
The last few years have been filled with nights where Ryan would scour Craigslist on his phone and find trucks all over the western U.S. We did end up buying a 1948 Ford F1 that we currently have in a million parts scattered around the yard. While this has "scratched the itch", it hasn't filled the hole left by Bessy.
Until Monday. Ryan gets out of school, he's going to ASU now, and heads over to get a haircut. As he is waiting, he is searching CL. Within a few minutes, he finds a truck that was just listed an hour ago. Just a single picture and not much of a description. I get a text at work...."DAD CHECK YOUR EMAIL NOW". I did and told him to give the guy a call. No answer, left a message. Then he texted him. Finally, the seller texted Ryan back. We were the first inquiry. Got some info from him and told him that we would like to come see it this afternoon. I pulled a few strings and got off work early. We talked about it and felt it was worth renting a trailer to take with us. It was up in Wickenburg, about 1.5 hour drive for us with late day traffic. Got there around 5. Looked it over. Pretty solid truck. A little rust in one cab corner but not much beyond that. It's an original Arizona truck. Had all the emblems, dash parts, etc. Bessy was missing a lot of those which we ended up buying at swap meets, etc. We talked it over and decided to make an offer. Spent more than I wanted to, but we felt this was a suitable replacement for Bessy. Ryan is very happy and excited. Here we go again! Not making the same mistake twice though!
