I have that picture, I would just need to dig it up for you. Maybe his weekend. I think you're right. The brake spring connects to the brake pedal, then to an "extension rod" that connects to the little tabs that come inward from the frame under the exhaust.
I'll do some digging because a picture says a thousand words.
