For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 486 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 486 | I'm putting a 292 six with a NP440 transmission into a '68 gmc. I'm not a mechanic so I'm trying to follow the manuals I have as closely as I can. One of them states that when installing a new clutch the flywheel and clutch assembly must be balanced. None of the other manuals I have mention balancing. I've checked around and can't find anyone in my area that balances flywheels any more. I was told the only place within reasonable driving distance that still does it takes several weeks to do it. One mechanic I talked to said that very few people balance them because it's so hard to get it done around here. How dangerous is it to skip this step? I don't want to take any chances that might cause me to have to take this all apart. Thanks for any advice.
