The problem with the oil shields is that they are thin sheet metal and get beat up pretty good after a while and wear through, allowing oil to pass through them.

Does that occur when the rubber breaks down?
I have never seen that, but I bet the rubber could get banged-up and deteriorate quickly if the bolts are not snugged up every so often?
