Hi All,
I've taken a summer break and am ready to continue work on the fuel system.
The original tank straps need to be replaced, so new straps were ordered along with the new tank (leak checked just to be sure - no problems). Original straps were attached to the brackets with rivets, 2 per strap. I was planning on using a similar sized screw with a nylon nut, nut on top to avoid the tank.
- Have others replaced the straps, and if so, did you replace the fasteners with rivets, or screws?
- Will screws cause an interference with the tank?
- If rivets, any recommendation of size?
One more question: The tank mounting pads seem to be for use against the bracket. This mean the straps rest directly on the tank. Clearly this worked for many years, but seems like a place for fretting resulting in rust.
- Have others used anything to separate these? Like a piece of webbing?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Bill
