My son's truck is having an engine rebuilt and the clutch done. While that was being done I wanted the transmission gone over.
It shifted ok and did not pop out of gear though it sounded noisy to me. Though I have no frame of reference to say the amount of noise was normal or excessive.
Today the engine and transmission were pulled out. The top cover was removed for a quick inspection.
No chipped or broken teeth were found though the top gears were pitted from rust from sitting for many years.
Is it safe to assume the bearings are pitted as well?
How hard is it to get all new gears?
Who is a good source for gears?
Should I just replace the bearings?
My son uses this truck for his catering business and he can put on 50 to 200 miles a week, 7 months a year.
Being everything is apart and that he will be using this truck a lot more then driving to a few shows a year it would seem to make sense to have the transmission done now.
