Got a nice set of stainless headlight bezels from one of the members (Thanks, Dave) Nice shape except one needs to be spot welded at the bottom. Have a friend with a spot welder who's willing to fix it for me, but wanted a sample to practice on to make sure he didn't burn a hole thru it. So yesterday I took the buggered up bezels off my truck, thinking I would sacrifice one of them for practice spot welds. One was the typical with the gasket and spring wire clips holding it in place, but the other had no gasket, but just a metal piece at the top that engages the slot on top of the headlight bracket. Anyway, I took a file to one, as they looked like chrome plated rather than stainless. And lo and behold it was chrome plated brass (all the way thru). Checked the other one with a magnet and it appears also to be brass. Guess I need to scrounge up some stainless sheet metal from somewhere else.
Anyone have the skinny on what the bezels were made of each year? Also the one without the spring wire clip - could it be a repop? My truck is a '51. No idea what year the stainless ones came off of but they have the gaskets and spring wire clips.
