Factory original was spot welded to the bed side and does go above the wood to hold it down. The cross member supports the wood from underneath. I had to rebuild my bed and purchased new polished stainless angle strips. I did not want to discolor the SS by spot welding the new angle strips to the bed side. I am bolting the angle strip to the side using SS button head bolts with acorn nuts on the other side. | | |
