Since eyebrow patches for '58 Chevy fenders haven't been made in decades, from what I understand, I bought some junkyard front fenders in pretty good shape. But like any salvage fenders I've seen, lower rear patch panels will need to be welded in. What I'm wondering about is the inner fender brace that runs top to bottom at the rear of the fender. I assume this part is welded in place and cannot be easily removed. When cutting away the rotten outer skin, is the trick to cut very shallow over the brace so as not to cut through it? I will need to replace the bottom of the brace as well, but would think you wouldn't necessarily cut the brace and fender in the same place? Also, if the entire rear brace isn't replaced how can the rotten old fender gasket be replaced?
