Joe, you can look in the
Master Parts Catalog from Keith Hardy's site, find a part number to a part you have (in hand), measure it & see if it correlates somehow (?).
It's a good question, but I've never noticed any correlation between part number & size. The numbers do link to a "family" or "group" within the system as a whole, however.
