ditto on spray paint. If you want more durability but don't want to spend $$ on chome, you might try an industrial urethane that is made for heavy equipment. That is not going to come in a spray can though and as CASO said, it still will not hold up as well as chrome. I painted the bumpers on my 59 Suburban with rustoleum hammered paint. It looks great for the first week or two, after a 6600 mile road trip, it gets chips etc in it and needs to be re-sprayed.
