zoegrant,

I asked about "diesel person" because I have heard the term "blow by tube" more commonly used by diesel engine people.

Blow by tube is also commonly used as a name for the road draft tube on stove bolt engines (I knew what you meant).

It looks like you now know what engine you have?

Extraneous question:

Does the body of water pump on your engine block extend above the top of the block?

The early 1955 engines (truck) had that style water pump.

1955-2nd series trucks had a water-pump body that did not extend above the top of the block.

1955 cars were not designated as 1st or 2nd series (the car body style changed at the beginning of the 1955 model year).

I am wondering if the cars use the 1st series-style engine in early 1955? I think the trucks changed to 2nd series around Mar/Apr 1955. You have an early February block.

Thanks,
