If you are planning on having the rolling chassis done, I would recommend Media Blasting. The Media that will be left behind is not as abrassive as sand. If you have your frame stripped down to no moving parts left, sand is sometimes a cheaper altenative. I have been painting my frame and all related parts with POR 15. You can paint it on with a brush. If it is cool where you are painting, you won't have any brush stokes at all. It self levels. Seems to be very durable. However, for the small pieces and threads, I would say that a couple of rattle cans of Zero Rust would be easier.
