| | | | Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 34 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 34 | I have removed the rear leaf springs on my 55.1 3100 and have discovered that the front eyes of the springs have been tapered. The front leaf spring brackets interior dimension is 1 5/8, not 1 3/4, and the front eyes appear to have been carefully ground in 1/16 on each side to match. Everything looks original (the brackets look just like the frame and are riveted on).
I have not seen this referenced anywhere and wonder if it is signs of a long ago repair? Would it be OK to grind new springs to match this taper? Is this something beyond the ability of an ordinary shop grinder?
