When I get time, I'm Probably gonna stop by the local engine
rebuilder and see if he's equipped to reface them. Haven't had
a chance to do any surfing for "solid lifter resurfacing", but
since things have been so slow around the bolt lately and I'm
waiting on parts so I'll take a look. Good idea, i.e. calling
around also thanks for the suggestion Ken.
Been on the lookout for some NOS "exact" replacements but that
seems to be a bust. Had the alarm set to bid on some NOS GM
rocker shafts in the box yesterday but I was in the barn when
the alarm went off and my "big old wife" just shut it off,
went back to her cooking show and told me an hour later when
I came in, "Oh, I shut your alarm off, what was that for?"
That pair of shafts had one bid and went for $9.99. Needless
to say I was not a very happy camper to be around the rest of
the evening.
Another wild idea on the lifters is to set up my high speed
die grinder in the lathe. Biggest obstacle there is the lack
of coolant and surface finish.

These lifters are definitely
not crowned. When you can check new ones on a granite
surface plate with no rocking there is no doubt they are
"flat".
The odd taper I'm finding on the lobes may account for the
fact that a few of the lifters still look very good and
others are dished, the worst one .010". I need to match
the lobe taper I see on some of the lobes to the lifter
face to see if they are connected. Still haven't found
any info on the cam lobe design for the Stovebolt other
than some lift and timing data.
