I have a 1949 3100 that I am replacing the engine with a 283, attached to powerglide. So I need to replace the rear axel. My question is if you guys have found a easy replacement that is basically a bolt in replacement? Any input would be appreciated.
You can keep the stock housing and convert it to open drive. You'll need to have the pivots welded up solid, or install rigid spring pads to the housing, then swap out the 3rd member out for one from a '55-'62 1/2 ton.
