Thanks guys ,spent some time worrying about this,I did think about each of those ideas, machining a shaft to fit , and also assembling the distributor,oil pump and adapter,but also installing the cam and giving it a spin to align things up.the block is in the machine shop getting a sleeve,due to catastrophic piston failure.this is my first old engine I've been in to,I am a HD diesel mechanic and I thought this would be easy. There will be no rushing this repair.
