You could use one pair though you would have to change the sockets in the housing so you can use two filament bulbs. Such as a 1157 bulb if you have 12v system, or 1154 6v.
I am sure you can find the correct bulb number.
I would find it easier to buy a set of correct repro tail light assemblies that match what your truck has and mount two on each side.
More lights better you are seen.
Also if your truck has a running light at each corner of the bed you can use the two rear ones as brake, tail, and stop lights by updating the socket in those lights.
Though if those running light lenses are not deep enough to fit over a 1157 sized bulb you will have to find lenses that will fit the running light base and be deep enough.
