Check your toeboard clearance on your brake pedal. If it's not set right the rod won't completely retract from the master and won't release the pressure on your brake system. Shop manual will give you the correct measurement for your truck. Worth a look.
Read your initial post again and I'm probably wrong. Was thinking about how the stock setup works. Probably ought to learn to read one of these days.
