The smaller carbs would definitely be the better way to go than using the larger 235 carbs. Of the two choices, I would personally swing more towards using Carters over Rochesters, just based on my experience with the Rochesters (cracked housings, warped cases seem to be common on those). Having said that, my personal favorite is the Holly 1904. Easy to overhaul, jets are the same as the Holley 4 bbl and are easily found at most parts stores. Only real issue is floats are almost impossible to get, and the throttle arms tend to be backwards from a GM carb.
