I am trying to get by as cheap as possible why still having a no-compromise stock rebuild. So I have a few questions because in the past, I have always just let the engine shop that does the machine work order the kit for me.
1) Is it really necessary to change the cam in most cases?
2) Are there differences in quality on certain items and what should I be looking for?
3) I have always been careful about labeling the push rods, but if you were given this engine in a box, no labels, aren't they fine if I roll them across a flat surface and there are no anomalies?
Pretty much interested in anything you guys have to say about the direction to go. I am seeing master kits from $550 to $750 and wonder if there is a better way.
I like to have the machine shop check each cylinder, hone, and bore if needed, clean and magnaflux the block and head, put hardened parts in the head, make sure it doesnt need to be decked, etc. Then take it from there.
Thanks for any help, ideas you may have.
