It's pretty simple to fabricate a new clip out of 1/16" thick X 1/2" wide steel flat stock if that one happens to break as you're stretching it. Just use a 20 penny nail as a bending template and roll the steel around it. I've made a bunch of them that way, and it's almost impossible to tell the difference from an original clip.
