If the top ring on your new set has no markings or no bevel on either side of the ring, you can install it either way. If the second ring has a bevel, it should have a marking (sometimes referred to as a pip mark) denoting which side of the ring faces up. I would not substitute a beveled ring for the top ring with no bevel.
