You are asking a question sort of like "If I want to do my accounting would a blue pen work?" Well, yes it would but so would a computer, a pencil, a red pen and so on.
This file is really more of an advanced tool. Though it can be used in a more "basic" manner and be very effective for a beginer.
If you post a picture of the damage I may be able to give you a better idea.
