I do not have any experience with an engine older than 1948.

The Shop Manual describes a complex procedure for main bearing replacement (compared to later engines).

The rods have babbitted bearings - the bearing is an integral part of the rod assembly. These types of rods were used up into 1953. I bought new rods to match my crankshaft - that was a long time ago.

Someone who has rebuilt one of those engines (in modern times) will reply.
