I recently removed the front clip from my 59 1/2 ton, just like you want to do. i removed the hood first, then followed the rest of the directions in the service manual. The only problem I had was I could not get the front clip raised high enough to clear the front bumper. The splash apron kept hanging up under the top lip of the bumper, so I removed the bumper.
I got 3 guys to help me, grabbed the 2 fenders, and lifted it off. It was suprixingly stable at the cowl end.n I sat it on the floor about 10 feet in frontl of where I am working,and the sheet metal is strong enough to support its own weight without bending.
